The Dubai Criminal Court, on Monday, ordered the confiscation of the seized drugs and deportation of the 35-year-old Asian convict, S. S. G., after serving his jail term.
It also handed down his 30-year-old accomplice G. S. K., a four-year jail term for consuming drugs, but cleared him of possessing narcotics with intent of trafficking. Presiding judge of the court Ali Attaya Mohammed Saad ordered his deportation after completing the prison term.
The case dated to February last year, when the Anti-Narcotics Department of Dubai Police received information that S. S. G. was in possession of a quantity of drugs, and was planning to sell part of it. A police undercover agent was sent, posing as buyer, to entrap him. He agreed with the suspect to buy drugs worth Dh3,000, after fixing the venue, date and time of delivery.
The police undercover agent was provided with the agreed sum of money after being photographed, and at the time and place of a restaurant in Al Quoz neighbourhood, the sleuth met the second suspect.
G. S. K. told the policeman that the owner of the drugs would arrive in a few minutes and will hand him over the drugs.
S. S. G. arrived and sat at the same table where the two were sitting, and asked the policeman to go with him outside the restaurant, to give him the drugs. The undercover agent refused, telling him that how come the contraband be handed over in public, and pretended he was scared.
After finalising the deal, the undercover agent signaled out to the plainclothes cops, who raided the place. The suspect threw the bundle of bank notes under the table when he saw the plainclothes cops busting the place. The police, however, arrested the two suspects and recovered five plastics rolled over with opium weighing 28 grams. Lab tests on the urine samples of the suspects showed that they had taken drugs. They were referred to the Public Prosecution, where the prime suspect was accused of drug trafficking and abuse, while the second defendant was charged of possessing narcotics with intent of pushing and consuming drugs.
