Two brothers on trial for stealing valuables from cars have each been sentenced to six months in jail by the Dubai Court of First Instance.
The two unemployed African men, aged 29 and 31, are accused - together with an accomplice (a fugitive) - of using sharp tools to break parked cars in Al Nahda and Al Qusais.
The court also ruled that the two brothers be deported after completion of their jail sentences.
The incident dates back to June 12, 2018, and it involves four cars in this case.
According to public prosecution records, the brothers stole five bank cards, two smart phones, a tablet, wallets with money and personal cards, including three IDs, a medical insurance card, a driving licence, and a car licence from the cars.
An amount of Dh900 and another amount of Dh220 were taken from two cars.
The duo is under detention.
A police corporal, who testified during the public prosecution investigation as one of the officers who apprehended and investigated into the robbery incidents, said: "On June 12, 2018, four car owners filed complaints that their cars, which had been parked in the same place, were broken into and valuables stolen."
The car owners recounted how they had parked their cars in a parking lot near a mosque and went to prayers and discovered their belongings stolen from their vehicles by thieves.
"Through investigation, we found that the two brothers and another man were involved in those thefts and in other robbery reports as well," the corporal told the prosecutor.
The two defendants were arrested and during interrogation, they admitted the charges. "They confessed they broke the car locks with sharp tools. They admitted they split the stolen valuables with their accomplice who is at large."
A complaint was then filed against the thieves.
The public prosecution investigator enclosed a list of the thefts committed by the defendants to the case file.
During the probe, the accused re-enacted how the robberies took place.
The court ruling has been appealed.
