The Sharjah Police is investigating the death of an unidentified man whose body was found during the demolition of an eight-storey building in Al Mussalla area in Sharjah. According to the police, the body has been lying there for more than four months now and only the skeletal remain of the deceased - dressed in his pants and shirt - had been found.
Police said that they received a call at 8:45am from the owner of a demolition services company, Mohammed Akram Company, informing them about a body in the elevator shaft of the building that they were demolishing.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, an official from the demolition company, said that a crane operator, during the demolition process, went to the roof of the building to fix something. "When he looked down from the roof, he saw the body in the elevator shaft." He notified the owner of the company who called then informed the police. He said that they have been working on the demolition site for more than a month, but never expected to find a body in such an old building.
A police team including, CID officers, forensic experts, police patrol and ambulance reached the site and shifted the body from the building to a forensic laboratory for autopsy to determine the cause of the death and identify the man.
Sharjah Police have launched intensified investigation to find out if the man had committed suicide or was murdered by someone elsewhere and his body dumped in the building.
