Five men installed a security siren on their car and posed as cops to hijack a vehicle with an 11-year-old Indian boy and his driver in it, a Dubai court has heard. After dropping off the boy and the driver, they fled in the car.
The five Pakistani men, including two runaways, aged between 25 and 41, went on trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance on charges of kidnapping, robbery on the street, impersonation of police officers, and putting the life of a minor at risk.
The accused intercepted the victims' vehicle as it was heading towards the Silicon Oasis on October 28. A case was registered at the Lahbab police station.
Public prosecution records showed the accused's car had a siren used only by security forces. The defendants made the vehicle's driver pull over and took over it.
At a short distance later, they let the boy and the driver leave and got away with the stolen car.
The vehicle, which belongs to a dairy farm, had SR8,151, 15 Euros and Dh150 inside in addition to the driver's several cards and mobile phones. There was also a bag in which there was an envelope containing Dh2,206, owned by the farm.
The schoolboy told the public prosecution investigator that the driver of the farm's vehicle was transporting him to school in the Silicon Oasis at 7:45am. "The driver was made to stop after he passed by the defendants' car. Two sat next to me and one took the steering wheel. They drove for about 200 meters before letting us leave. The driver, who was taking me to school, then called the police."
The 32-year-old Pakistani driver of the dairy farm vehicle gave a similar statement during the investigation.
A policeman said they tracked down the suspects based on fingerprints taken from the 4WD they were driving when they kidnapped the boy and took the farm's vehicle.
The trial has been adjourned to April 17.
