In the weekly Covid-19 briefing, the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GCAA) official said that all approved testing centres work as per the highest global standards. Severe penalties are imposed if quality is compromised, the official stressed.
The UAE has worked with global agencies to set safe travel standards. "All Covid safety measures implemented by the UAE are in line with recommendations issued by different agencies, including the World Health Organisation."
Health authorities established compulsory procedures like pre-testing, testing upon arrival and home or institutional quarantine.
More than 70 per cent of front-line workers in the aviation sector have been vaccinated against Covid-19.
The GCAA also launched the first mobile centre in the world for civil aviation medical services.
The official noted that the aviation sector played an active role in fighting the pandemic. Over 2.7 million tonnes of goods were transported around the world, including medical and vital supplies and food. “Our national carriers transported more than 38.7 million passengers to more than 140 destinations worldwide,” he added.
