The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Saturday reported 2,959 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 1,901 recoveries and 14 deaths.

The new cases were detected through 242,159 additional tests.

The total number of cases in UAE as on March 6 are 408,236 while total recoveries stand at 391,205. The death toll rises to 1,310.

The UAE has conducted over 32 million tests till date as part of the country's massive screening programmes to combat the spread of Covid-19. However, the ministry has urged the public to follow all preventive guidelines.

In its latest update on Saturday morning, the Johns Hopkins University revealed that the total number of global Covid-19 cases has topped 116 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.57 million. The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases at 28,889,879 while India comes in second place in terms of cases at 11,173,761.

In UAE, the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committe announced on Saturday that cinema halls can function at 30 per cent capacity while following all precautionary measures including wearing masks, maintaining physical distance, and regular sanitising. Cinema halls had been shut down since February 5, 2021, as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile in Dubai, authorities have directed coffee shops to stop serving beverages in baby bottles. The Dubai Economy said the practice violates the precautionary measures in place against the spread of Covid-19.
