Shilpa Shetty was in Dubai on Saturday for the inauguration of the new home furnishing store Danube Home at Shaikh Zayed Road. She was all dolled up in an Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla outfit with Prada shoes. In a chat, she confirmed to us that she recently sold her plush apartment at the iconic Burj Khalifa.
How passionate are you about home furnishing?
I am very passionate about making a home and anyone who comes to my home can see that. A home is incomplete without love and also furniture. Everything that you have in your home, says a lot about you as a person and about your sensibility. A place like this (Danube Home) is like a dream come true for anyone who is trying to make a home. It is any woman's paradise. I think this is every man's dream come true because their wives will get what they want and it will also suit their pockets. It is wonderful to have a place that you can come to when you are shopping and re-doing your home.

Do you still own your property at Burj Khalifa?
I use to have a home in Dubai but we just very recently sold it. The place was very small; it's lovely to have a two-bedroom place when you don't have a child. But when you have a child, you want a bigger space.
Any plans to buy a new home in Dubai?
We were looking for something else but we will figure it out. For people who do not come here more than twice a year, the house is just lying there. So I'd rather come and live at a plush hotel where everything is serviced. I use to travel with a full entourage, so it's easier and cheaper to go to a good hotel.
Do you have a favourite corner in your home?
My different homes have different vibes. My home in India is on the beach, so its earthier, eclectic with a modern touch. I like things to be timeless, so I don't like just contemporary furniture. You want to come back home and not be bored of your furniture. So even if I have the same stuff, I change things around, like I will put the artifacts somewhere else. There are different corners in my house for different reasons. For entertainment, there is a special corner. I have converted one entire room into my make-up and wardrobe area. It's terrible (laughs). I love cooking and I love my kitchen. I love my master bedroom. There are two areas in my house, the upper and lower space. The lower space is for entertainment and that overlooks the beach; that is my gazebo.
Are you picking up anything for your home from this store?
I just re-did my son's room and I made him this bed, which is like a jeep with wheels. That is so wonderful for a child. That bed was pretty expensive and I was surprised to see something similar in this shop for lesser price.
Did you furnish your house on your own?
When I got married and did up my home, I shopped all over the world. I had pieces coming from different parts of the world, so it was not worth it. Making a home is a labour of love, so something like this is a welcome change in the industry of designing a home.
Any plans for Dubai Shopping Festival?
I am excited for Dubai Shopping Festival and I have come here with an agenda. I am not telling anyone where and what I am going to buy. I am happy this opening is happening at a very timely hour.
