In Hiroshima, the city devastated by the first nuclear bomb, the biopic's Academy Awards success met a mixed reaction
This was actress Sheryl Cruz’s reply to reporters who wanted to know how she was coping with the breakup of her marriage to Norman Bustos.
A leading broadsheet broke the news recently, but Sheryl chose not to comment. Finally, last night, at a press conference launching ABS-CBN’s newest fantaserye Varga (where she plays the superhero Xandra, the show’s resident villainess who is 80 years old but looks like she’s only 20, thanks to her superpowers), Sheryl broke her silence on her marital troubles.
“When people ask how I’m doing, I can’t say I’m okay, or that I’ve moved on, because I haven’t,” she said.
Sheryl and her husband were married for 12 years and have one child, daughter Ashley, who’s just turned seven.
It has only been three months since news of the breakup came out, and the wounds are still fresh.
During the interview held after the Q & A session at the presscon, Sheryl had to fight to hold back her tears as the reporters asked her about her marriage.
She’s still in the process of accepting what happened.
What’s helping her cope is her work. Sheryl was last seen doing a cameo role in Lobo starring the tandem of Angel Locsin and Piolo Pascual. After that, she was immediately offered the role in Varga.
The show reunites her with child star Angel Sy, with whom she also worked in Princess Sarah.
Recently, she also starred in an episode of the longrunning drama series Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK).
Sheryl also has an upcoming recording project, the details of which she still cannot divulge.
She’s been throwing herself headlong into her work, but even then, it hasn’t been easy accepting what happened. “Of course, you can’t help feeling sad because of all the years that you invested (in the marriage),” explained Sheryl.
