Life goes on for AJ Dee

THESE DAYS, whenever actor AJ Dee gets the chance to sit down with the Press, he’s a little discomfited by the fact that most of the questions that are asked usually have little to do with him, and more to do with his younger brother, fast-rising young actor Enchong Dee.

Although AJ made it into the business first when he became a finalist on TV Idol, a personality and talent contest held on the defunct noontime show Magandang Tanghali, Bayan, it is Enchong who is now ruling the scene while AJ has been shunted aside-or at least that’s what people think. At the Press conference tendered by ABS-CBN’s Star Magic for its recent birthday celebrators, AJ seized the opportunity to let people know that he’s still very much around.

According to AJ, he was last seen in Palos, where he played a kontrabida role, and he will be part of ex-Kapuso star and Starstruck discovery Cristine Reyes’s new show Eva Fonda, when it premieres in the next few months. He was also part of the cast of Star Cinema’s When Love Begins, which starred Aga Muhlach and Anne Curtis.

Granted that these are not major roles like his brother Enchong is getting these days, but it’s work, and AJ doesn’t see any reason why he should feel insecure.

“I realise what people are saying, that my brother has eclipsed me; I’m aware of it.

But it’s his time, and I’m happy for him,” says AJ.

He wonders where and how people got the idea that he has semi-retired from show business, and that he has gone home to Naga, where the Dee family is from. Other reports have it that AJ has decided to turn his attention to the family businesses because his future in showbiz now seems uncertain. “That’s not true; I’m still very much around,” says AJ.

“I guess people say things like that because they don’t see me as much as they see my brother. It’s true that he’s busier than I am these days, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not busy.”
