the kids can barely wait for exams to finish. It is the magical time of the year when they get two months of respite from the routine of school and studies.

The thought of staying up late, not getting up early, hanging out with friends, watching a lot of television and catching up with family and friends with nary a worry is what makes many a student long for the vacations to begin. All over the world vacations are eagerly awaited as it is said, “A vacation is having nothing to do and all day to do it in.” City Times caught up with a few youngsters to check out what they intend doing this summer.

Munther Farraj, 11, Grade 5, Al Mawakeb School, Dubai

This vacation I'm going to Jordan and am really looking forward to it. I am going to spend a lot of time playing football, basketball and volleyball. I enjoy travelling a lot and I would love to go to London. Coming back to school to a new grade in September is exciting. I will be happy, and very excited to meet my friends after the long holidays.

Arundhati Chandrasekhar, 12, 7th Grade, International School of Choueifat, Dubai

I am looking forward to the holidays. We are going to go to India because it's the only time that we get to spend time with our family. Also our cousins are coming from the US so we are all going to stay together. Getting to go to bed whenever I want to, seeing my family and watching a lot of TV is what I like most about holidays. I collect coins so whenever I go somewhere, I do look out for coins. Yes I do look forward to getting back to a new grade. My favourite holiday spot is Paris.

Ashley Heller, 13, 8th Grade, American School of Dubai

This summer we are going to South Carolina, Myrtle Beach and I'm really excited about it. I plan to do a lot of swimming and visit the water parks as well. I may probably do a soccer camp, a volleyball camp and maybe a cross-country camp. I want to take surfing lessons but I don't know if I'd be able to or not as I have never done it before. The best part of holidays is seeing my family and getting to spend more time with them. Two months of holidays is great though I'm sure by the time vacations are through I would want to come home.

Chase Heller, 11, 5th Grade, American School of Dubai

I am really looking forward to my holidays. We are going to go to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. During this holiday I may take up some sports camp for soccer. The best part of vacations is all the stuff you can do like sleep in, eat all you want and take things easy. I like having 2 months as vacation but I probably would want to come back by the end of the summer vacation.

Fatma Al Numairy, 13, Grade 8, Al Mawakeb School, Dubai

I am eagerly waiting for the holidays, as I will be travelling to Bahrain with my mom and sister. The one activity I am looking forward to during this vacation is martial arts. During holidays I love sleeping late and waking up late, this is the best part of holidays. My dream holiday destination is Hollywood. Getting back to school after the vacation is nice because I'll get to meet new friends.

Sara Pirnia, 14, 8th Grade, Emirates International School, Dubai

I just can't wait for my holidays to begin. I'm really looking forward to it. We get away from school and have fun. I may go to London and Italy I like travelling during holidays. I plan to do horse-riding but not if I go abroad. I don't really look forward to getting back to school and I think three months is what we need. Holidays are fun as we can sleep late, do what you want but if you don't have anything to do, it can get boring. But I'm pretty sure we can think of something.

Razan Khalaf, 14, Grade 8, Al Mawakeb School, Dubai

Holidays are something I am looking forward to a lot. I will be visiting my relatives and friends in Jordan. I'm going with my family to attend my uncle's wedding. Basketball and shopping are the activities that I look forward to during the vacations. Spending time with friends and staying late watching television are the added pleasures of holidays. My dream holiday destination is Paris. I am happy and excited about going to a new grade but furious about going back and studying again.

Pratyush, 9, Grade 5, International School of Choueifat, Abu Dhabi

I am looking forward to my holidays as it is split into three parts. First I am going to go to visit my relatives in India, then we will come back here for a break and then we will go to Canada. I love long drives in the countryside and I can go to theme parks, boat rides and many other things. The best thing about holidays is that I get to visit my friends and relatives. I intend to concentrate on cricket and read lots of books in libraries. I don't really look forward to returning to school so much.

George Bandak, 10, Grade 5, Al Mawakeb School, Dubai

I am looking forward to the holidays. I will be going to Lebanon with my dad. I love collecting Yu-gi-Oh! Cards and transformers and I intend to collect many this summer. If I could, I would stop time so that I could go around the world, and visit all the amazing places at very high speed. Meeting friends after a long vacation is something I eagerly wait for.

Mohamed Rabah, 18, Grade 11, Al Mawakeb School, Dubai

This vacation what I am looking forward to is working for my father in USA. Apart from that I am going to be playing a lot of soccer. Actually Cyprus is an ideal place for a holiday. The great thing about holidays is getting some extra pocket money and learning new things and getting exposed to real life... (I will be working, remember). Though vacations are great fun, I'm always eager to get back to school, for its like coming back to my second home.

Rahul Raman, 17, Grade 12, International School of Chouiefat, Abu Dhabi

I'm about to complete my Grade 12 and am planning to go to university in Canada to pursue undergraduate studies in engineering. This holiday I am going to India to meet my relatives. As I am going to Canada, I won't be able to meet them as often as before as it is on the other side of the world. I also plan to spend time with some of my friends in Abu Dhabi, this summer, as they too will be leaving to study elsewhere in different parts of the world.

I guess I will also use this time to catch up on hobbies and stuff that I don't get to do during school days. I like playing squash and cricket and also listening to music. I just got a MP3 so I plan to download 500 — 600 songs now. I am getting prepared to go to Canada, to general university life, living on your own and the freedom it's going to be a new experience. The most wonderful aspect of holidays is that you get to catch up with a lot of stuff that you don't get to do during normal school days and you get to spend more time with your friends and family. My dream holiday destination is the Caribbean and I would love to go there one day.

Amal Al Attar, 15, Grade 11, Al Mawakeb School, Dubai

For sure I await my holidays very eagerly. I am planning on travelling and then looking forward for vacation in London or Paris may be both. I am keen on shopping and visiting all the historical places and monuments in Paris and/or London. It is my dream to visit Hawaii. The best part of holidays is learning more and more so that I can use this knowledge one day in my work and thus achieve more...I am also very excited about returning to school in September since it will be the very last year and I will be graduating.

Shane Heller, 7, 1st Grade, American School of Dubai

Holidays mean fun to me. I am looking forward to the vacations especially racing. I just love Go-karting. The best part of vacations is going to the beach. I don't like returning from vacations and I don't look forward to going back to a new grade. I wish vacations could go on forever.

Arshia Akbari, 11, Grade 5, Al Mawakeb School, Dubai

I am keenly waiting the holidays, as I will be going to Iran with my family. I think what I like most about holidays is being with my family and I look forward to playing the guitar during the holidays. I am excited about returning in September as it is always good to be back to Al Mawakeb...there is always something new going on.
