Yemen in $36m cable deal

SANAA — FLAG Telecom, a unit of India’s Reliance group, signed a $36 million deal with Yemen on Saturday to provide two land stations for an undersea cable, the Arab state’s telecommunications minister said.

FLAG telecom last year unveiled plans for a new undersea cable looping the Middle East and Hong Kong through India.

The Yemeni minister, Abul-Malik Moalimi, told Reuters the project would provide Yemen with connectivity to global centres directly through FLAG’s Falcon system.
