VMware, a leader in cloud infrastructure and business mobility, sees UAE as a fast growing IT market and ranks it among the top players globally, said Sanjay Poonen, executive vice-president and general manager, end-user computing, VMware.
Poonen, who heads the end-user computing business at the world's fourth largest software company, was in Dubai to attend the 35th Gitex Technology Week. Speaking exclusively to Khaleej Times he said: "Earlier Bric (Brazil, Russia, India and China) countries were perceived as emerging markets with growth opportunities; however that seems to be changing as Middle East and Africa now offer phenomenal growth opportunities. The UAE, and Dubai in particular, have been at the forefront of introducing and adapting new technologies, smart solutions in the region."
VMware has posted year-over-year revenue growth of 10 per cent to $1.67 billion; up 14 per cent on a constant currency basis.
The Dubai-headquartered Pacific Controls Cloud Services, the leading provider of IT as a Service, or ITaaS, had recently announced a partnership with VMware to launch Cloud based Desktop as a Service, or DaaS in the GCC. The Dubai company was granted the VMware Horizon DaaS Powered status, which will help enable PCCS customers to rapidly deploy desktops and applications as a fully managed cloud solution - accessible from any device, from anywhere, at an affordable price.
"Our purpose at VMware is to help transit enterprises from client server to mobile cloud. If some of the even regulated companies feel hesitant to put their data on cloud then there is certainly a fear of seeing them wiped out, " said Poonen
"We have seen markets like US, Europe and now try to replicate same success in the new emerging markets like the UAE, which has a strong penetration of smartphones. Dubai will be pioneer in areas such as data centres, end-users computing and M2M solutions," he said, adding "we will be training people beginning from November 2015 in DaaS to ensure the expertise flows faster in the region."
Poonen, who joined VMware in August 2013, has over two decades of technology industry experience. He is responsible for strategy, products, engineering and delivery across all of VMware's end-user computing solutions.
