ABU DHABI - The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), represented by Computer Emergency Response Team (aeCERT), organized a number of workshops as part of the Annual General Meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation – Computer Emergency Response Team (OIC-CERT) held from September 26-28 ,2011 at The Palace Hotel in Dubai.
The workshops, which were attended by the delegations participating in the Annual General Meeting, looked into a broad of issues regarding information security in member countries. The discussions focused on finding effective means to strengthen the cooperation between OIC countries on issues that threaten cyber security, in addition to providing a safe cyber environment for users. The delegation aims to protect users from cyber attacks by drawing the roadmaps of preventive strategies and mechanisms that would follow from occurrence of such threats.
Participants from member countries presented research papers shedding light on the means followed in their respective countries to achieve cyber security, and defined the major challenges they face. Each participant benefited from the cooperation of all parties and the resulting exchange of knowledge and ideas to draft a series of feasible solutions.
The aeCERT played an important role in the discussions given its expertise in information security. The team formed communication channels between member countries and provided an invaluable source of information in this regard. The workshops focused on providing aid and supporting member countries by encouraging to establish their own national teams. The aeCERT was once again of great significance. Its involvement in the workshop demonstrates the valuable contributions it has already made and continues to make towards cyber security in the UAE.
The aeCERT aims to sustain a resilient and vigilant ICT infrastructure against a broad range of cyber security threats by encouraging a safe and secure cyber culture in the UAE. Furthermore, by enhancing cyber security laws and assisting in the creation of new laws, aeCERT is spreading information security awareness across the country. It provides a trusted central point of contact for cyber security incident reports, and is fostering national expertise in information security, incident management, and computer forensics.
