Top WEF official hails UAE’s achievements

ABU DHABI — His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, received on Sunday at the Presidential Palace Dr Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, or WEF, who is currently visiting the country to attend the WEF’s third Summit on the Global Agenda that will kick off in Dubai on Monday.

More than 700 thinkers will participate in the summit to discuss the key issues and challenges related to the future of mankind. During the meeting, they reviewed the agenda of the upcoming summit and the importance of partnership between the Government of the UAE and the WEF in order to bring about positive change and contribute to the global decision-making through the recommendations that will come out of the summit to form a practical framework for organising the annual meeting of WEF for 2011 to be held in Davos in Switzerland.

For his part, Schwab hailed the achievements witnessed by the UAE in all fields that are the results of the clear vision of its leadership, pointing out its success in transforming challenges and difficulties into opportunities and achievements.

He also extended an invitation to Shaikh Mohammed to attend the annual meeting of the WEF to be held next year in Davos.

The meeting was attended by a number of ministers and senior officials. —
