Siemens announces Canadian order for 86 wind turbines

FRANKFURT - The German engineering group Siemens has won a contract to deliver 86 wind turbines to Canadian Hydro Developpers, boosting its total value of North American contracts this year to 770 million euros (1.1 billion dollars), the company said Wednesday.

The Canadian order, for the Wolfe Island Wind Project in the province of Ontario, came on top of five others in the United States, Siemens said.

‘Other contracts in the United States and Canada are expected soon,’ the German group said.

‘With forecast growth of 25 percent per year, North America remains after Europe the biggest market for wind turbine construction,’ it added.

Germany is the world’s leading exporter of wind turbines, and is counting on foreign demand now that the domestic market is showing signs of saturation.
