Serial blasts hit export, tourism in B'desh

They said many of the foreigners suspended their scheduled tours of Bangladesh and were anxiously inquiring about the aftermath of the waveof blasts that killed two persons and injured over 150. Sources at Hotel Sonargaon said occupancy in the hotel, particularly in the business class, dropped significantly with the foreign buyers and businessmen stopped visiting the country since the incident.

We suffered a 5 to 6 per cent loss in business till Sunday as an impact of the August 17 occurrence, said a senior official of Sonargaon Hotel said. He, however, said the situation had started improving since yesterday.

The president of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Fazlul Haque, said the buyers were worried and it was clear through the way they communicated with the local exporters.
