Over 50 per cent of Phase-I Regional Roads and Utility infrastructure development which began in February 2008 is complete.
Reem Island is one of the largest developments in Abu Dhabi where foreign investors can buy property.
Once completed, the development will accommodate over 200,000 residents. A self contained city, the island will have seven schools, four hospitals, 10 mosques, two post offices and 56 hectares of park and beach land and a university.
Reem Island is located on a 864-hectare natural island, currently connected to the Abu Dhabi coast by land bridges from Salaam Street. Four additional bridges are currently under construction to connect the Island with Falah Street and the Abu Dhabi Mall through Suwwah Island. Eventually, more bridges will link Reem Island to Abu Dhabi Island and other adjacent developments, to provide adequate regional access and traffic distribution.
Tariq Sultan CEO of Bunya, the management authority that oversees the main infrastructure and utilities on Reem Island, revealed that the development of the infrastructure on the Island is progressing as scheduled. Phase I utility infrastructure networks are nearing completion. We have completed 85 per cent of road embankments, 75 per cent of the sewerage pipeline network and 65 per cent of the storm water network, Tariq Sultan said.
The Island’s sewerage treatment plant will utilise treatment processes that produce high quality effluent and sludge.
