Juma fires UAE to glory

Shaikh Juma bin Dalmouk Al Maktoum on Sunday won silver in double trap shooting in the 16th Asian Games being held in the Chinese city of Guangzhou.

With the victory, Shaikh Juma also secured UAE’s first medal from the Guangzhou Games, which attracted top athletes from Asian countries.

Shaikh Juma was delighted with his achievement and thanked His Highness the President Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, for the strong support they have been providing for sports and sportsmen in the country.

“The competition was tough, but I have been focused and determined to do well for my nation. I hope the others would follow in my footsteps to add more medals to the UAE delegation,” the champion said.

Shaikh Juma, UAE’s prominent shooter and endurance rider, faced top six shooters from the continent in the final and hit 182 targets to finish second behind the Indian gold medalist Ronjan Sodhi who hit 186 targets.

Qatar’s Hamad Al marri walked away with the third place honours with 181 targets.

Shaikh Mohammed congratulated Shaikh Juma over the phone for the great success and ensured him that the country will always provide all support to the youth to finish on top in international events.

Shaikh Juma also received a telephone call from Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum and congratulated him for flying the flag of the UAE at the international event.

UAE’s Olympic gold medalist Shaikh Ahmed bin Hashr Al Maktoum also congratulated Shaikh Juma, saying that his achievement had been made with only 14 months of training.
