Lovers of electronics products are gung-ho at the opening of Gitex Shopper's spring edition today. But, Apple and iPhone fans are disappointed that the new iPhone SE will not be a part of this four-day tech extravaganza.
Apple fans are advised to save some cash or retain balance on their credit cards to purchase the iPhone SE. Pre-orders for the iPhone SE began on Tuesday, with the device reaching stores in the UAE next week. Apple's iPhone SE with 16GB is priced at Dh1,649 and 64GB at Dh2,049.
Etisalat is pre-booking new iPhones with zero upfront payments, starting from Dh75 per month on a contract. Apple's four-inch iPhone SE has the A9 advanced chip, similar to the one used in iPhone 6s, a 12 megapixel camera, takes 4K videos and Live Photos.
"This is Apple's first entry into this price range, which is much required and people would welcome it. There are a lot of users who want to buy a good smartphone at this price," Emax Electronics CEO Neelesh Bhatnagar told Khaleej Times.
Bhatnagar believes the new device will be successful as it offers good value for money. "They are using the same technology of iPhone 6s and 6s Plus in this new device," he explained.
The world's top technology brands and regional power retailers, including Jacky's Electronics, Jumbo, E-Max Electronics, Plug Ins, Sharaf DG and Samsung, have promised new product launches and unbeatable deals across the full range of technology, communication and entertainment products at Gitex Shopper.
Products will include the latest mobile phones and smartphones, tablets, laptops, HD TVs, cameras, gaming consoles, photographic equipment, wearable tech, smart home and lifestyle appliances, white goods and more.
New zones
A number of new zones being introduced include the 'Xbox Gaming Zone' and 'This Hot! That's Cool!' experience zone, offering visitors an opportunity to test and experience the latest technologies and gadgets.
More than half a million dirhams worth of prizes will be up for grabs at the show. Prizes include: Obi smartphones in the 'Visit and Win raffle', Police-branded watches in the 'Scratch and Win' raffle, daily prizes of two travel packages worth Dh20,000 and Dh50,000 cash and a grand prize - a new Mitsubishi Montero Sport SUV.
