Idex 2005 deals total Dh6.8b

ABU DHABI — Several major deals were announced during Idex 2005, with a total of around Dh6.8 billion. One of the biggest announcements before the curtain went down on the show was a $950 million engine deal between Etihad Airways and Rolls Royce.

Earlier, the UAE purchased chemical defence system valuing Dh768 million from German' Rehinmettal.

The UAE Armed Forces awarded a Dh308 million contract for buying eight new generation AB-139 helicopters to Bell/Agusta Aerospace Company of Italy.

Bell The AB 139 helicopter is a new generation medium twin turbine helicopter designed with multi-role capability whose applications include law enforcement, EMS, offshore, corporate and VIP transport.

A Dh261 million contract for repair of helicopters was won by Italian company Agusta SPA.

A contract for buying 'Tiger Model' light military vehicle was signed with the Advanced Industries of Arabia (AIA) from Jordan for 500 vehicles valuing at Dh153.7 million.

UAE will purchase aviation systems for Aeroplanes from Rockwell-Collins France to upgrade navigational systems for helicopters valued at Dh47 million.

A Dh528 million contract for development and improvement of the communication systems for the UAE Armed Forces was awarded to Rohde & Schwarz GmbH of Germany.
