Expo 2020 Dubai will be a great opportunity for Germany to present a modern, open-minded and forward-looking image of the country for visitors, said Sebastian Rosito, director of the German pavilion.
Expo organisers have divided the site into three subthemes - Mobility, Opportunity and Sustainability; Germany will be concentrating on the last, being deeply committed to this global sharing of ideas.
"The experience-driven design of the German pavilion aims at providing comprehensive information about our country's cultural, technical and industrial capabilities and to showcase potential solutions related to the main theme, in an appealing, entertaining and innovative way. Furthermore, the German energy revolution, the so-called Energiewende, has become a global benchmark. We decided to select a concept that would mirror this German pioneering role in our pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai," said Rosito.
The Campus Germany concept developed within the pavilion addresses one of today's most discussed global topics - education. "We are convinced that Campus Germany will integrate the Expo theme into the German pavilion in a unique way," added Rosito.
Personal companion
The "IAMU" digital devices will be handed out at the entrance of the pavilion as a beginning of the visitor's experience, which will be personalised for each visitor and will act as a sort of companion. After the greeting event in the Welcome Hall, visitors will enter an exhibition space in the form of a huge ball pit with 155,000 balls telling facts and statistics about Germany.
In the Future City Lab, visitors will become part of an intricate urban landscape that surrounds them. In the Biodiversity Lab visitors will experience the beauty and vulnerability of nature beneath a suspended installation of magnificent proportions. The finale will combine an experience with technology in a show, where visitors will be called upon to play an active role for the global community.
Meanwhile, Multi - a sub-division of Thyssenkrupp - has been selected as one of the lighthouse projects to be presented in the German pavilion by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
"The UAE is one of the expanding markets we are looking at in Middle East as the adoption of technology is faster and seen as an opportunity for growth. The infrastructure offered here is amazing which helps in establishing smart connectivity. Expo 2020 Dubai is a global event to show off what the UAE's future holds and its capability to the global audience," said, Prof Michael Cesarz, chief executive officer of Multi.
"Smart buildings will automatically give rise to smart elevators, which will define the modern buildings and people's mobility," added Cesarz. - sandhya@khaleejtimes.com
