The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, or Dewa, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Seven Tides International, a Dubai-based luxury hospitality developer and holding company, to enhance cooperation between the two parties and achieve the Dewa's three smart initiatives - Shams Dubai, smart applications and grids and green charger.
The MoU was signed by Waleed Salman, executive vice-gresident of strategy and business development at the Dewa, on behalf of Dewa managing director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, and Abdulla bin Sulayem, CEO of Seven Tides International. It was attended by Dr Yousef Al Akraf, executive vice-president of business support and human resources at the Dewa, and representatives from both sides.
The agreement will encourage building owners to install photovoltaic solar panels to generate electricity and develop smart applications to speed up electricity connections. It also aims to guarantee fast response times for the immediate reconnection of electricity during power outages, in addition to smart consumption, using smart metres, to enhance the happiness of residents and citizens. It also aims to improve the sustainability of resources, in addition to establishing infrastructure for electric vehicle charging stations.
Al Tayer observed that the MoU supports the Dewa's efforts to achieve the smart city initiative launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the smartest city in the world.
