International and regional players interested in exploring the latest technology and developments in the manufacturing of molds, plastics, printing and packaging descended on Sharjah on Monday for the first day of the Plastivision Arabia, Arabiamold and Print Pack Arabia exhibitions.
Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah bin Sultan Al Qassimi, chairman of Sharjah Sea Ports and Customs, inaugurated the three specialised economic exhibitions, which drew the participation of 120 exhibitors from 11 countries. The exhibitions will be held until December 14 with the support of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI).
Sheikh Khalid highlighted the success of the three events in attracting some of the leading international companies in the manufacturing of molds, plastics, printing, packaging and paper worldwide. He added that the volume of participation in these exhibitions highlights Sharjah's growing importance to international companies, brands and trademarks in these industries, who wish to develop their businesses and activities and enhance their presence in the UAE and other markets in the region.
Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, chairman of SCCI and chairman of Expo Centre Sharjah, said the exhibitions act as a platform for traders and businesspeople from different countries in the region who want to learn about the latest equipment, technologies, devices and programmes that support their areas of work and their industries. He also added that the exhibitions offer opportunities to make deals, build partnerships and establish business dealings.
The GCC polymer industry is expected to reach 34.5 million tonnes by 2022, supporting further downstream development, while growing at a CAGR of three per cent. According to the 'GCC Plastic Industry Indicators 2016' report, GCC plastics producers' sales in 2016 represented four per cent of the global industry sales revenue, reaching $33-34 billion.
Industrial packaging is the fastest growing end-user market for polymers in the region. Consumer packaging accounts for 44 per cent, followed by the construction industry which accounted for more than a fifth.
Plastic consumption in the GCC is increasing rapidly and reached 94 kg per capita in 2016.
The three events welcome visitors daily from 10am to 6pm.
