500 experts taking part in MPGC 2004

MANAMA - Around 500 experts will be examining here the various aspects of the petroleum and gas industry at an international premier oil sector event that opens for business today, with delegates coming from 50 countries.

The 12th Annual Middle East Petroleum and Gas Conference (MPGC-04), being held under the patronage of the Minister for Oil, Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, runs under the theme Middle East Oil and Global Energy Security: Rising to the Challenge, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Spa.

The experts will discuss the strategic perspectives in energy security in the short tem, the impact of the political environment, investment opportunities in the upstream and downstream, the regional product trade outlook, future of oil suppliers in the inter-play between regional and global oil markets, downstream and petrochemical sectors, the dynamics of attracting development capital and technology.

Decision makers such as high-ranking government officials, heads of national oil companies in the region, presidents of international oil companies, top financers as well as senior executives from key organisations in the oil and gas business are participating in the forum.

A highlight of the conference includes a session devoted to the Status of the Iraqi Oil Industry, with two speakers' advisor on Downstream operations at the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, Dr Ahmed Al-Barifcani, and Director-General, Reservoirs and Field Development, Hazim Sultan.
