In a bid to cut costs, Jet Airways will no longer be providing free meals in new economy fares introduced recently.
The Indian airline currently offers five types of fare choices within Economy, which are Light, Deal, Saver, Classic and Flex. Jet Airways will now lower 'Light' and 'Deal' fares for flyers within India as complimentary meals will no longer be offered with tickets bought at these rates. The new reduced fares will make it affordable for flyers within India as they will have an option of purchasing either vegetarian or non-vegetarian meals from a new in-flight menu.
According to a note by Jet Airways: 'From 25th September 2018, guests travelling in Economy and booking 'Light'/'Deal' fares for travel from 28th September 2018 on flights within India (our domestic network) will not only be able to avail competitive low fares but have the opportunity to buy meals from a specially curated on-board menu."
Purchase of meals via this new in-flight menu can only be done via debit or credit card. However, beverages such as tea and coffee will remain complimentary for all passengers. Besides, under the 'Saver', 'Classic' and 'Flex' Economy fares, the meals will still be complimentary, according to report in Outlook Traveller.
Recently, Vistara introduced an onboard menu and Freedom Fares with lowered prices and no free meals to expand its passenger base.
