"I was shocked to see the vehicle coming towards us. I fell unconscious of shock and don't remember anything. I thank God for my survival," said Rapia Khatoon, a Bangladeshi worker injured in the Ajman accident which killed two people and injured five.
On Sunday night, a car driven by a 23-year-old Emirati rammed into the McDonald's at the Eppco petrol station in Al Humaidiya area of Ajman, killing two people on the spot and injuring five others. The driver also sustained serious injuries.
Col Abdullah Al Hamrani, Deputy Chief of the Ajman Police, told Khaleej Times that the driver lost control of the vehicle when he unknowingly pressed the accelerator after he suffered an epileptic attack. He was trying to drive out of the restaurant after eating dinner there.
According to the official, a 45-year-old Indian woman and 10-year-old Iraqi boy were killed in the accident. The injured include three children - two Arab children aged five and years and the three-year-old grandson of the deceased woman. The others injured in the accident are a 27-year-old Bangladeshi worker and a 57-year-old Arab national.
Following the accident, the Ajman Police, in coordination with the municipality, is planning to introduce new measures to prevent any further incidents, said Col Al Hamrani, adding that the police are planning to instal protective fences around the restaurants.
After getting information about the accident, the police patrol and ambulance rushed to the site and rushed the injured persons to Khalifa Hospital. The bodies were shifted to the morgue of the hospital, he said.
