While the entire country is reeling under a cold snap, temperatures as low as 2°C have been recorded on the UAE's highest peak, RAK's Jebel Jais.
The low temperatures have turned a water pond atop the Jebel Jais; over 1,910 metres above sea level, into a carpet of frozen sheets of ice. The 'frozen pond', shared by the Storm Centre on Instagram, shows two residents surrounding the waterbody.
In the video, the two residents are seen breaking the ice sheets and holding it up for the viewers. The thin ice sheets can easily break, yet they manage to keep huge portions of it intact.
The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) on Sunday warns of low visibility due to heavy fog on some western areas; "unstable weather conditions will continue to affect the country until Tuesday".
There is a probability of rainfall - with varying intensity - over scattered areas of the country. Thunderstorms have also been predicted in the northern parts of the UAE.
Dr Ahmad Habib, a weather expert with the NCMS, said the weather on Sunday was fair in general and hazy to partly cloudy at times, becoming cloudy over some northern areas and the sea with the probability of some light rainfall. "Moderate winds, freshening at times over the sea."
He urged the public to be on the lookout if they are to go in for outdoor activities.
"Be on the alert as hazardous weather with exceptional severity is forecast, and strictly observe the authorities' advice to remain safe."
Warning about the chance of convective clouds formation, he said: "These may associate with gusting winds that can reach 40kmph, tends to rough waves."
