Mohammed Hassan Al Attar, Acting Director of Operation and Maintenance Dep’t at RTA Marine Agency, stated that December 2009 statistics showed a slight increase of about 1% in the water bus ridership when compared with November of the same year.
“In December 2009 the number of commuters lifted through B1 Line (Bur Dubai Station to Al Sabkha Station) was 5,167 passengers showing a 3% decrease compared to the number of passengers lifted in November of the same year which was 5,301 passengers. On B1 line, the indicator shows a 52% growth rate in the number of passengers served during the same period when comparing number of commuters in December 2009 to the monthly average in 2008. There was a 3% increase when comparing with the monthly average of this year” said Al Attar.
Statistics also reflect a drop in the indicator on B2 Line (Deira Souk Station to Bani Yas Station) where the number of passengers lifted in December 2009 month was 14,300 passengers, whereas those lifted in November of the same year was 14,997 with a decrease on number of passengers lifted by - 4%, the increase in the monthly average in 2008 was as high as 14%, whereas the increase in the monthly average for this year was 4%.
The performance indicator on B3 Line (from Seef Station to Bani Yas Station – Al Sabkha Station) show that the number of passengers lifted in December 2009 was 22,336 passengers, whereas the number of passengers lifted in November of the same year was 23,549 recording in the process a 9% drop; which is understandably impacted by Eid al-Adha holiday in November.
The increment in the monthly average of passengers this year compared to 2008 amounted to 10%; an indicator of the continued improvement & growth.
Al Attar further stated: “The statistics revealed an increase in the number of passengers on B4 Line (from Bur Dubai Station to Al Seef Station – Creek Station) in November 2009; which reflects the continuous passenger growth on this Line; which is relatively new and open to growth. It acts as a parallel line on Dubai Creek where 3,996 passengers had been lifted in December 2009 against 3,773 passengers lifted in November of the same year, reflecting a 6% increase rate. The increase in the monthly average of passengers in 2008 amounted to 390%; whereas the increase in the monthly average amounted to 31% compared to the monthly average this year”.
