A special 'vote vehicle' from Abu Dhabi will head to Kerala to urge Indian expats who have flown home to cast their vote in the ongoing general elections.
The 'vote vehicle' is launched by Incas Abu Dhabi, an expat organisation affiliated with the Indian National Congress. Incas president Yesusheelan, vice-president A. M. Ansar and treasurer Shibu Varghese will be heading the pan-Kerala trip.
"There are many expatriates who are already in Kerala for the elections. They will join us in each constituency. We will also be meeting expat families across the state and urge everyone to vote," said Varghese, who is a businessman based in Dubai.
The vehicle will journey through all the 20 constituencies of the South Indian state with the aim of spreading the message 'One India. One people', said the organisers.
"Our plan is to meet expat voters. Coming from the UAE, we want to convey the message that religious harmony brings in progress. We want to talk about how people from all religious faiths and ethnic backgrounds live harmoniously in the UAE," Ansar told Khaleej Times.
The journey will start from the state capital Thiruvanthapuram and proceed to Attingal, Kollam, Mavelikkara, Pathanamthitta and end in Alappuzha on Day 1, before proceeding to other constituencies.
"We will cover around 1,000 kilometres in four days, stopping to meet and greet UDF (United Democratic Front) candidates in all constituencies," said Varghese.
The vote vehicle will end the journey in Malappuram.
He said the trip is also symbolic of India's diversity as the three leaders of the Incas caravan represent three different religions.
Ansar said: "We are trying to spread the message that there is only one religion, and that is humanity."
