Five people have died on Sharjah's Maliha Road in the first half of 2017, according to Sharjah Police.
Brig. Ali Salim Al Khalyal, director of police central operation in Sharjah, said that Maliha Road is considered one of the five dangerous roads in the emirate.
The five people died in accidents caused by over-speeding and lack of attention.
Police is making great efforts to reduce the number of deaths in the five dangerous roads of the emirate, including Maliha, Dhaid, Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Ittihad, which witness increasing number of deaths every year compared to other roads.
He said that five deaths form 80 per cent of the total number of fatalities on these roads, including Mohammed bin Zayed Road which witnessed one death caused during an accident involving the crossing of road from an undesignated area.
Brig Al Khalyal said that in order to reduce road fatalities on Maliha and other roads Sharjah Police has put up plans and strategic initiatives based on the government national agenda approved by the Ministry of Interior related to index of deaths caused by traffic accident. "The traffic police based on technical studies have deployed patrols to control the roads, installed advanced smart radars and raise traffic safety awareness among community members," he added.
