One of the most popular sport competitions in the world, the championship will have more than 400 teams from over 20 countries, including Singapore, China, Thailand, Indonesia, the Netherlands, the UK, Australia, Canada and South Africa. Attracting over 20,000 spectators over the three-day period, the event will be telecast on 30 top channels across the globe.
The Dubai Flying Dragons team was founded in 2006 by the Dragon Boats Alive Club to promote the sport in the Middle East and build a competitive team to represent the UAE in this year's world championship.
Angelina Wong, one among the 35 team members, said "I am looking forward to participating in the championship. It is an opportunity to compete with world class teams.
"It is an honour to represent the UAE and all the team members are excited."
The UAE team comprises 21 women and 14 men. The team will leave for Malaysia on July 29.
