The team from Our Own High School, Dubai, won the prestigious award after competing with contestants from 22 countries around the world. During the closing ceremony, the team was honoured by Jejomar Binay, Vice-President of the Philippines, in the presence of senior officials and dignitaries.

During the ceremony, the flag of the World Robot Olympiad International Finals 2011 was handed over to the delegation of the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) which will host the event in Abu Dhabi in November 2011.

The UAE is the first Arab country to host WRO which will be organised outside South-East Asia for the first time ever. Up to 40 countries from all over the world are expected to participate in this prominent technological event.

“ADEC has embraced robotics as a fun way to interest students in the fields that are vital to the future of Abu Dhabi. It will help develop the skills of our future engineers, mathematicians, scientists, technologists and technicians who will lead innovation in these fields in the future,” Dr Mugheer Al Khaili, Director-General of ADEC told the international media at the ceremony.

ADEC led a team of 12 students from the UAE to compete at the WRO in Manila, which was held from November 5-6.
