Two women hurt in kitchen fire

RAS AL KHAIMAH — Two Bengali woman sustained burn injuries in a fire accident at a residence in Al Degdaggah area yesterday.

The accident occurred around 1 pm when 26-year-old housemaid Masuder Hanifa Ali and her 29-year-old co-worker Shahnaz Akthar were cooking in their employer’s house. While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, the vicitims suffered burn injuries on their arms, legs and abdomen area.

On being alerted, rescue teams from Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence Department rushed to the accident site and rushed the victims to the Emergency Department of Saqr Hospital. After receiving necessary medical treatment, the two women were admitted to the hospital surgical ward, where their condition was said to be stable.

Civil Defence and police sources told Khaleej Times that the cause of the blaze was not known. The Civil Defence Department had earlier warned the public against use of obsolete gas cylinders.
