Police sources said the burglars entered the shops by breaking open the locks and that more than one person was involved.
The burglars took away 25 Nokia mobile phones worth Dh10,000 and Dh2,000 in cash from Medawi Mobile Trading and 12 laptops of various brands worth Dh40,000 and Dh6,000 in cash from Kenouz Al Hasoub Computer and Information Systems located behind the Sharjah Amiri Court.
Mohammed Abdull Wahab, owner of Kenouz Al Hasoub, said, "When I reached the shop around 8am, I was shocked to see the lock broken. All drawers were open and the shelves empty. I immediately called the police. The police came and took fingerprints and pictures."
A police source said Anjad patrol and CID officers from Al Gharb station received the call around 8.15am and rushed to the area. After completing investigation procedures in the computer shop, one of the officers walked to the neighbouring shops to check whether they were also burgled. He found the lock of the mobile shop broken and the door open.
Manager of Medawi Mobile Trading said the police informed the owner who is in Pakistan. "We were not there when the police came to the shop and found the lock broken.
The owner, Irshad, informed us and we reached the shop around 9am. The shelves were empty and the whole place was in a shambles," he said. The police source said the culprits would be apprehended soon.
"In the past also, we had succeeded in nabbing the criminals behind similar burglaries," the officer asserted.
Abdull Wahab said he never thought his shop could be burgled as it is located in a very busy area where no such incident had taken place earlier. He said his goods were not insured.
