Two killed in road accidents in capital

ABU DHABI — Two persons were killed in separate accidents on Abu Dhabi’s external roads during the first two days of Eid Al Fitr, Colonel Hamad Al Shamsi, Director of Traffic and Patrols, Abu Dhabi Police, said yesterday.

He said one person was run over by a vehicle and the other lost his life in an accident caused by excessive speed.

He said patrolling had been intensified during the Eid to ensure smooth flow of traffic as part of an awareness campaign launched under the theme “Don’t spoil Eid festive mood with an accident”.

Meanwhile, Captain Yasalm Al Tamimi, Head of Serious Accidents Investigation Unit, said that nine accidents were reported in the city in the first two days of Eid.

Two cases of reckless driving and over-speeding were registered. In the other incidents, motorists crashed into properties, causing serious and slight injuries. Four motorists were caught driving without licences.
