DUBAI - Two persons have been arrested for attempting to cheat a jeweller at the Deira gold souq by offering fake gold bars weighing 7.2kg in return for 24-carat gold jewellery. One of the arrested persons, Khalid Ahmed Salih, an Arab, had approached a jeweller on August 10 and offered the fake gold bars.

However, the jeweller kept the bars and told Salih to come the following day for expediting the transaction.

Later, on checking the gold bars the jeweller realised that they were fake.

He alerted the police, who laid a trap. When Salih reached the jeweller's shop the next day for getting the payment, he was arrested. During questioning, he told the police that a man, whom he identified as Rafi Hoqsib, had given him the bars. Hoqsib was arrested in Sharjah.
