“Unlike other women across the world, UAE women did not have to struggle to get their rights, because the government itself paved the way for their development and participation in the country’s development progress,” said Shaikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairperson of Dubai Women’s Development Foundation.
In her statement issued to mark the Women’s Day, Shaikha Manal said the UAE women had made great achievements in all walks of life, thanks to the support of the wise leaders of the country and efforts of Shaikha Fatima, who has contributed a great deal in enabling the women to achieve the progress.
Commenting on the Women’s Day, Fatima Al Sarri, Director of Media and Research Department at Dubai Women’s Association, said this day allowed UAE women to proudly review their achievements they have made.
She noted that the representation of women in the Federal National Council and the appointment of Mariam Mohammed Khalfan Al Roumi as the Minister of Social Affairs, and Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi as the Minister of Economy, showed the ability of the UAE women.
Amina Ibrahim, Head of the Women’s Development Research Centre at Dubai Women’s Association said the “national strategy” on the development of UAE women, launched by Shaikha Fatima in 2002, had won the admiration of international women bodies. It has ensured a new phase in women’s development by encouraging their contribution in sectors like education, economy, media, social work, health, environment and legislation, in addition to political and executive fields.
She also praised the national plan for promoting women’s effective participation in issues that enhance sustainable development and stress equality between men and women.
Fatima Al Matroushi, Director of Umm Al Momineen Association of Ajman said the emirate of Ajman had the largest number of women in the police force.
Talking on the large number of women inducted into the Ajman Police force, Huda Ahmed, Head of the Public Relations Section at the Directorate of Ajman Police said: “Shaikha Fatima bint Zayed bin Saqr Al Nahyan, wife of His Highness Shaikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, has stressed the importance of women’s role in the country’s development process.”
