Speaking to Khaleej Times yesterday, Pakistan Consul General Amanullah Larik said there would be no extension of the set by the Pakistan Embassy in Abu Dhabi for issuing outpasses under the amnesty.
Mr Larik said: "We might later consider an extension in the date, but till now we have orders to complete all paper work according to the deadline."
At present, the number of applicants has increased and 7,800 outpasses have been issued as the deadline nears. Though the government of the UAE has set April 30 as the deadline for all illegal immigrants to benefit from the amnesty, several diplomatic missions, including the Pakistani mission, have marked April 20 as the last day for issuing outpasses.
"Out of the 7,800 people who have been given outpasses, 5,000 have already left the country," said Mr Larik. He assured that all cases would be dealt with today even though it might mean working late.
Under the new rule, all Pakistani amnesty seekers are required to present at least one original document such as a birth certificate, driving licence, passport, domicile certificate, identity card etc, for security reasons.
Mr Larik reiterated that no action whatsoever would be taken against people applying for outpasses after the April 20 deadline. But, it would be beneficial if all people followed rules and met the deadline, he said, adding that the setting of the deadline was initially aimed at processing the required outpasses smoothly to avoid a last-minute rush.
Meanwhile, all three airlines that have set up counters at the Pakistani missions, are set to tackle the rush of illegal Pakistani nationals ready to leave the country.
Over the past two weeks, PIA has set up extra counters and posted more staff. "If required, we will run extra flights," said a PIA official.
