With globalisation and technological advancements, most industries worldwide have been evolving at a rapid pace. With new work streams, divisions and niches being explored, the skills required for fresh graduates have also been changing accordingly.
According to the World Economic Forum's report titled "Future Jobs", international strategy and human resource officers identified the top three skills required by the year 2020, as critical thinking, creativity, and complex problem solving.
Other than that, skills such as emotional intelligence, service orientation, cognitive flexibility, negotiation, and people management are also important if a freshly graduated student is to seek employment in a reputable firm in the nearby future.
A survey conducted by PwC reiterates the importance of 'digital change', where out of more than 1,300 CEOs, 77 percent agreed with the fact that growth in the robotics industry, along with digitalisation and other technological advances, are the most important trends in today's world.
Here are some of the skills that every fresh graduate must now be equipped with to land his or her dream job:
Soft skills: This includes teamwork, effective communication, pro-activeness, people skills and other behavioural performance, which will give you a competitive edge.
Fluent in multiple languages: In today's world, there is a known trend that those employees are moved to the top of the selection list who are fluent in at least two or three languages. This is especially true in many multinational corporations (MNCs).
Digital content: With social media and the rapid advances in the digital world, having a strong grip on tools like Google Analytics, search engine optimisation (SEO) and Facebook advertising will prove beneficial.
