The athletes at Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 have traits that everyone cherishes to have, a top official from the American media and entertainment industry said.
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is a partner for the Games and its chief brand officer Stephanie McMahon, who was part of the US team parade during the opening ceremony, told Khaleej Times that she was bowled over by the passion she saw in people of determination.
"I had the chance to watch some of the athletes compete. They have such joy in their hearts. Their commitment to the sport and their teammates is amazing. These athletes truly bring out the best in all of us. They are about love, compassion, inspiration, working hard and showing each other respect. These are the traits we all aspire to have," said Stephanie, daughter of WWE chairman and CEO Vince McMahon.
WWE, Stephanie said, aims to spread the important message of inclusivity, and it vows to use its global platforms to generate awareness of the Games. Earlier on Wednesday, WWE crossed the one-billion mark for the number of fans in its global social media platforms.
"We are media partners and we are here to help spread awareness for all of the events. We are going to leverage our platforms to spread the word. We reach 180 countries in 27 languages. We are the second most-viewed YouTube channel in the world," she said, noting that WWE superstars will be back in the UAE soon.
As part of the Games, Stephanie was at the Louvre Abu Dhabi for the torch run, among the speakers at Global Youth Leadership Summit, She also took the campaign to the Mother of Nation Festival and visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
Special Olympics chief executive officer Mary Davis said WWE is an important voice in the inclusivity movement. "They are the best ambassadors in the world for us. WWE takes our story to the world. Wherever they go and whichever country they are performing and entertaining, our Special Olympics athletes are there by their invitation. This is a fantastic relationship across all range of areas that helps Special Olympics achieve its goals."
