Sotheby’s jewel show opens in Dubai today

DUBAI — Sotheby’s, in conjunction with HSBC Private Bank, yesterday announced that it would be exhibiting highlights of its upcoming Geneva and New York Magnificent Jewels auctions at The One & Only Royal Mirage Hotel in Dubai today.

The exhibition will be opened to the public from late afternoon.

The event will be attended by Sotheby’s experts David Bennett, chairman, Europe and the Middle East, Sotheby’s International Jewellery Department; Daniela Mascetti, senior specialist, International; Gary Schuler, senior specialist, International; Victoria Major, senior specialist, North America, and Brett O’Connor, senior specialist, Europe.

“We are honoured to join Sotheby’s in this high-profile exhibition in Dubai. HSBC Private Bank has a long-standing commitment to the Middle East,” said Pierre Pissaloux of HSBC.

On show from the New York sale (to be held on December 4) will be three lots of magnificent natural pearl and diamond jewels from the collection of Kelly and Calvin Klein.

Of historic importance, the Single-Strand Natural Pearl and Diamond Necklace, Cartier, Paris, a Natural Pearl and Diamond Pendant, Cartier, Paris, circa 1950 and the Pair of Black and White Natural Pearl and Diamond Earclips, Van Cleef & Arpels, New York, 1957 were purchased by the Kleins in 1987 at Sotheby’s legendary auction of The Jewels of the Duchess of Windsor in Geneva. Together, the three lots have a combined value of $2,200,000-3,100,000.

Further standout pieces include the Harry Winston Liberator II Platinum and Diamond Ring (estimate: $350,000-450,000). From a Private Collection comes a Fancy Intense Yellow Diamond Pendant weighing 50.40 carats (estimate: $1,750,000-2,000,000).
