The skyway project in Sharjah is likely to be operational in a few years once the testing phase is complete and all regulatory requirements are met, a senior company official told Khaleej Times.
"We have just completed phase one and initiated the second phase to issue tenders for testing of the new pathbreaking technology of travelling, both cargo and passenger service," said Raman Marwaha, senior vice-president, project division, SkyWay GreenTech, said on Wednesday.

"It's a revolutionary technology and needs a lot of regulatory requirements before a commercial launch in the region. It will take time," he added.
"The passenger minibus can run at maximum speed of up to 150km per hour. It is environment friendly as well as good from the point of view of safety and security of the travellers," he said.
In October last year, His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the first phase of the development and the testing of the project. It featured a driverless passenger skypod that ran on a 400-metre-long hanging rail.
