Sharjah - His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, has ordered the release of 203 male and female prisoners from the Sharjah Central Jail.
Dr Shaikh Sultan’s gesture comes within his keenness to grant the pardoned prison inmates a chance to begin a life afresh, and ease suffering of their families as well.
Sharjah Police chief Brig Saif Al Zari appreciated the humanitarian gesture, indicating that the correctional and punitive department at the Sharjah Police has been instructed to implement the release order issued by the Sharjah Ruler.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, he said that the pardoned prisoners served jail terms for various cases; they were selected based on certain conditions and criteria. They will not be granted the pardons until the jail management asserts that they meet these conditions and assure that they deserve another chance and will be good citizen in the society. -afkarali@khaleejtimes.com
