The Award recognizes excellence in advancing the business of government through SAS software; honoring the most effective, efficient and innovative use of solutions.

The SAS Excellence in Government Award Middle East 2012 was presented, during a ceremony at the SCAD headquarters in Abu Dhabi, to Butti Ahmed Mohamed Butti Al Qubaisi, Director General of SCAD, by SAS co-founder and CEO Dr. Jim Goodnight.

The Award was created to acknowledge and recognize government programs that demonstrate the most effective uses of SAS software, particularly those that optimize performance. It helps decision-makers act with greater confidence while advancing productivity and efficiency.

During his speech at the awarding ceremony, Dr. Goodnight said: ‘SCAD was selected because it demonstrates the key characteristics that distinguish winners of this award. SCAD is pioneering the use of statistics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and has developed and organized an official statistical system in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. SCAD has been using SAS business analytics for two years now, which is further proof of the Centre’s leadership in its field.’

On receipt of the Award, Butti Al Qubaisi said: ‘We are delighted to be honored with this key award by a leader in business analytics software and services. Our effective use of SAS software is a key pillar in our ongoing commitment to achieve our vision of becoming the recognized statistics centre, contributing to the development effort of Abu Dhabi.’

‘This achievement comes at a key time for SCAD, as we are currently preparing to implement a portfolio of important statistical projects as part of our first strategic plan (2009 - 2013), which seeks to raise the profile of the Emirate’s statistical system and put it on a par with similar systems of developed countries globally,’ Butti Al Qubaisi added.

SCAD, established in 2008 in accordance with Law No. (7), is the main official body for the collection of statistical data in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and assumes the functions of preparing statistical plans to serve the Emirate’s development programs, through conducting statistical surveys all over the Emirate, without prejudice to the interest of national statistical work. SCAD is also responsible for the collection, classification, storage, analysis and dissemination of official statistics and the release of the results of social, demographic, economic, environmental and cultural surveys.
