Abu Dhabi — The Abu Dhabi City Municipality is planning to start a safety traffic project near schools. It was revealed that there are three types of requirements: Constructing and maintaining entries; parking slots; and streets leading to schools. The project work is expected to be completed by July.
The school traffic safety project aims at protecting students and teachers.
The project is considered unique in tackling issues related to traffic safety through adopting simple and optimal solutions such as constructing elevated pedestrian crossings in areas witnessing intense pedestrian movement which require giving priority to pedestrians. Measures also include installing speed bumps in order to force motorists to slow-down in such areas.
The project also seeks to achieve the highest safety standards at pick-up and drop-off points of school buses as well as by parents and the importance of addressing security and safety measures at these points.
Through the project, the municipality is keen to provide areas in the vicinity of schools with signs related to speed-breakers and student crossing which have to be placed well before the speed hump or crossing point in order to alert motorists about these points well in advance.
It will also provide signs of school zone which have to be placed at the entry of the school zone in order to caution drivers to observe speed limits as they approach school areas — they must not exceed 30 km/h.
