Registration for Nabati poetry competition begins

ABU DHABI -- The Poetry Academy of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), has begun registration for the Nabati poetry competition.

This event is organised annually as part of the proceedings of the ninth International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition, in Abu Dhabi (ADIHEX- Abu Dhabi 2011).

ADIHEX will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre between the 14-17th of September.

The competition, which aims to present falconry to the poetry fans, will exhibit artistic images in three categories: the most beautiful Nabati poem in describing the bird, the most beautiful Nabati poem in describing Mignas (hunting) and the most beautiful Nabati poem which discusses the bird’s (the falcon’s) loss.

This competition is aimed at poets in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Arab Nabati poets collectively..

The judging panel is formed of a number of the most important poets, researchers and specialists in the field of Nabati poetry.

The participating poems must be submitted via e-mail to adihex@adach.ae . The total value of the prizes is 135,000 UAE dirhams. The winner in every category gets an AED of 20,000, while the runner up gets AED 15,000 and third place finalist receiving AED 10,000. The Exhibition’s High Organizing Committee also grants the winners appreciation certificates.

In accordance with the rules of Nabati poetry competition, candidates must be at least 18 years old, their poem must be recent, have never been published in the media and be 20-30 verses in length. The High Organizing Committee is free to publish the winning poems. The poem must be accompanied with a brief biography of the poet. The deadline for submission of entries is September 7; the results will be announced on the last day of the Exhibition.
