RCA food assistance to drought-hit in Somalia

ABU DHABI — The UAE Red Crescent Authority has delivered food assistance to about 3, 000 families affected by natural disasters in Somalia.

Dr Saleh Al Taie, RCA Secretary-General, said the food aid were distributed according to instructions of Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and RCA chairman, to provide drought-hit population with basic food needs before the advent of the holy month of Ramadan.

Saleh Al Jaberi, acting director of relief and emergency and head of the RCA delegation, said arrangements were in place for the launch of the Ramadan programme.

Around 20 tonnes of dates were shipped to Somalia as part of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s donations of dates to 23 countries, he said.
