The Abu Dhabi University and Zakat Fund managed to collect Dh50 million in the past six years through their joint annual Ramadan campaign called 'Our Youth Our Responsibility, Our Zakat Our Immunity'.
The money was used to ease the financial burdens of more than 1,500 students, who were eligible for financial aid as per the conditions and criteria of Zakat Fund.
The two parties have an agreement in this respect, now running for six years, meant to enhance cooperation in humanitarian and social work in the field of education.
"We achieved monumental success that exceeded expectations through exploring the students' future needs throughout the duration of their academic journey and effectively contributed to their shift from welfare to self-reliance," said Abdullah Al Muhairi, the secretary-general of the Zakat Fund.
"We are always keen on nurturing partnerships with organisations such as Abu Dhabi University that value the concept and practices of social responsibility as put forth by the wise leadership of the UAE," he added.
According to Dr Nabil Ibrahim, Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University, the donations came from individuals, private companies and government entities.
"We are looking forward to our next annual Ramadan campaign through which we're hoping to collect Dh5 million in donations, which will help 300 students through their college years, and ultimately give them the unique opportunity of graduating with a degree that is internationally recognised and accredited from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges: Senior College and University Commission," mentioned Dr Ibrahim.
