The meeting was attended by Shaikha Salama bint Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, wife of General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Shaikha Shamsa bint Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, wife of Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region, Shaikha Khawla bint Ahmed Al Khalifa Al Suwaidi, wife of Shaikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Presidential Flight, Shaikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, wife of Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, and Shaikha Alyaziyah bint Saif bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, wife of Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Reem Ibrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State and Head of Mission of Honour accompanying the Queen also attended the meeting.
Shaikha Fatima welcomed the Queen and noted the importance of her visit to the UAE in strengthening ties between the two countries and their peoples.
During the meeting, they reviewed the role of the General Women’s Union since the time of its inception 35 years ago in Abu Dhabi, with the support of the founder of the nation late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in the progress of women in the UAE.
Shaikha Fatima also spoke about the important role of the Family Development Foundation and the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.
She said that women in the UAE have made great achievements which are unprecedented in the Arab region, thanks to the support of the President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the prudent leadership.
She stated that the Emirati women play an active role in various areas of national work through their positive contribution to economic, social and cultural development of the country.
The Queen hailed the great role of Shaikha Fatima in the progress of women in the UAE and lauded her initiatives in the fields of child welfare, protection of young people and the dissemination of education and culture in the UAE and abroad.
She said that the efforts of Shaikha Fatima, especially in the areas of family care, maternity and childhood and literacy always deserve the admiration and appreciation.
The Queen also hailed the progress the Emirati women have achieved in various fields and asserted that this is the result of the continued efforts of Shaikha Fatima during the last three decades for the empowerment of women for creating a generation capable of bringing the renaissance in the UAE. The Queen specially commended the participation of Emirati women in the government and political work and their role as ministers and members of the Federal National Council. —
