However, the price of Suleimani tea (black tea) remained constant.

Tea is a favourite drink with most of Al Ain residents. Says Yacoub El Tayeb, an Al Ain resident, “No one seems to be able to stop traders from exploiting consumers.”

Mohammed Al Hadi, another resident, says it is the responsibility of the Al Ain Municipality to control the prices in Al Ain markets.

Adil Said, an expatriate who lives in Al Ain, feels it is impossible for individuals to hike prices of sugar, milk or tea without the permission of authorities.

An official from the Al Ain Department of Municipalities and Agriculture says customers have to lodge complaints with the authorities against shops, restaurants and groceries that hike prices arbitrarily.
